Jacob Beckman and Ryan Smith, members of the UW-Madison Men’s Golf Team and former high school champions in their respective states, will be on hand Monday, July 24 at Blackhawk Country Club for a scramble golf tournament to support future winners of the Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.
Beckman and Smith will offer tips and demonstrations as a part of the outing at Blackhawk, which is nestled in the Madison suburb of Shorewood Hills. The outing is produced by the Wisconsin Technology Council.

Proceeds will go to fund prizes for winners in the 2024 business plan contest, which is produced by the Tech Council, a 501c3 tax-exempt organization. Online registration closes at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 17.
Beckman is a Middleton High School graduate and a junior majoring in business and finance. He was the top-ranked junior in Wisconsin and won the 2021 WIAA Boys’ Golf State Tournament for Division 1. Smith is a senior majoring in communication arts and hails from Eatonton, Ga. Smith was a Georgia 1A State Champion, “Player of the Year” and first-team all-state three years running.
“Both Jacob and Ryan continue to compete at a high level on amateur and collegiate circuits,” said Tom Still, president of the Tech Council. “We’re looking forward to learning from them.”
Their presence is courtesy of The Varsity Collective, which facilitates “name/image/likeness” opportunities for student athletes at UW-Madison.
An individual can golf for $195; a foursome can golf for $750. Not a golfer? Join us for the buffet and cash-bar social hour following the tournament. The reception-only price is $50.
Kayser Automotive Group will sponsor a “hole-in-one” contest on all Par 3 holes, with a top prize of $15,000 toward a new vehicle on the primary hole and other prize packages (seven-day Cruise, Yeti cooler and a set of drivers) on other Par 3 holes. In addition, free six-month subscription cards for Golf Digest will be available to all golfers.
Blackhawk Country Club celebrated its 100th year in 2021. This private course is within the Village of Shorewood Hills, which is surrounded by Madison and nestled along the shores of Lake Mendota. Play at Blackhawk offers a challenging 18 holes, well-manicured greens, a picturesque clubhouse and spectacular views of the lake and surrounding neighborhoods. The club hosted the Wisconsin Women’s State Championship in June.

While there are no official U.S. Golf Association rules governing “scrambles,” most such events feature team members teeing off, choosing the team’s best ball for their next shot and continuing until completion of the hole. No good shots on your team? Mulligans are available for a price!
Tournament participation will also include: Range balls provided on practice tee; complete bag service; on-course beverage service; scoring and results sheets; course staff will lead groups to proper tee assignments for shotgun start.
