Walking away from the backhoe she’d just operated and heading to a massive wood chipping truck, Enaviana McGowan was already feeling good about the choice she made — exploring a career as an electrical line worker for We Energies.
The junior at Milwaukee High School of the Arts was one of about 50 high school students, most in their junior year, who went to We Energies’ Bluemound Training Center in West Allis to meet We Energies employees and learn about what they do.
The students are all applicants for the utility’s line mechanic internship or gas distribution youth apprenticeship programs. On Friday, they were at the training center to try their hand at things like operating a backhoe, working in the air in a bucket truck and maintaining and shutting off natural gas pipes.
