The chief mental health officer for federal Veterans Administration medical centers across much of the upper Midwest will keynote a Tuesday, April 12 forum on suicide prevention and awareness to be held in Appleton.

Dr. Edward Landrath, the chief mental health officer for a VA region that includes most of Wisconsin and Illinois and parts of Michigan and Indiana, will speak during the 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. forum at the D.J. Bordini Center, 5 North Systems Drive, on the Fox Valley Technical College campus.

The free forum on “Combating Veteran Suicide” is hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. Register by Friday, April 8 at https://bit.ly/AppletonReg. It is the first in a series of DVA-hosted forums that will focus on suicide prevention, mental health and relate topics.

Parking is available at the Bordini Center or across the street at the main Fox Valley Technical College campus.

The Appleton forum is open to all mental health professionals interested in a community-based approach to what has been identified as a national problem. In 2019, the VA reported the suicide rate for military veterans was about 1.5 times the rate for non-veteran adults.
