Representing one of the most significant aspects of the deal struck last month between UW President Jay Rothman and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, lawmakers are bringing forward a bill to fund the construction of a new engineering building for UW–Madison, among other projects, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The bill would amend the state’s approved capital budget plan to OK state borrowing for the $347 million engineering building project; renovations for the 30-year-old UW–Madison Lakeshore residence halls; and $78.4 million for exterior facade repairs on two of UW–Whitewater’s academic buildings. Around $45 million would also be provided for the demolition of uninhabitable buildings at UW–Madison, UW–Platteville, UW–Eau Claire, and UW–Green Bay.

The facilities bill is the priciest piece of the deal between Universities of Wisconsin and lawmakers. It equates to roughly $740 million of the $800 million agreement initially rejected by the UW Board of Regents but ultimately approved.
