Ashley Capital is renovating one of its warehouses in Racine County for new companies after Amazon.com in late spring let its lease for the space expire.

Amazon.com in 2020 gained approval to use that facility in the Enterprise Business Park as a last-mile center where vans would pick up products to deliver to customers’ doorsteps. The online retailer let its lease for the space expire this spring, so building owner Ashely Capital is emptying it out and will have the building ready for new tenants by the end of summer, according to a press release this month.

The move comes after Amazon.com’s plans went public in May to sublease a minimum of 10 million square feet of U.S. warehouse space to other companies in response to its slowing e-commerce business, according to reports by the Wall Street Journal.
