The state of Wisconsin’s largest single tax credit deal since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic was a $25 million award to Molson Coors Beverage Co.

That award value stood out by a large margin over others as the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. shifted to support a substantially larger number of companies with smaller agreements. The agency and its local partner organizations between July 2020 and June 2021 assisted 30,772 businesses, compared with closer to 4,000 in the usual year, as a result of new programs created using Covid-19 stimulus funding for small companies.

“The most important piece is that at WEDC, we really made the effort to be as dynamic and flexible as the times required,” said secretary and CEO Missy Hughes. “What we’re really looking at is how can we continue to respond to the challenges in any time the economy faces. Having a flexible approach is really critical.”
