A regional crime lab planned for the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center received $99 million from the Wisconsin State Building Commission and the commission also approved $10 million toward a new Medical College of Wisconsin cancer research facility.

The Building Commission met at the Wisconsin State Fair grounds Tuesday and approved a total of about $306 million in projects across the state including the two at the Regional Medical Center in Wauwatosa. Funding for both projects previously was approved by the Wisconsin Legislature.

The crime lab for the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) is planned for a site near the Medical College and would share a three-story building with a new office for the Milwaukee County medical examiner and office of emergency management. Milwaukee County officials are seeking ways to fund an expected $127 million bill related to its share of the new building, known as the “Forensic Science and Protective Medicine Facility.”
