From Twitter to Facebook and You Tube, the world of media has changed seemingly overnight. Meanwhile, traditional forms of media, such as newspapers and magazines, continue to be powerful tools for businesses with a strong story to tell. How do early stage companies get heard amid a cacophony of voices? Learn from a panel of media experts on how to best utilize your time and resources when it comes to making news.

Speakers include: Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council and former associate editor of the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison; Steve Prestegard, publisher and editor of Marketplace Magazine; and a senior representative of Red Shoes PR Inc., an Appleton-based firm with core expertise in social media, media relations and beyond.

“Understanding the basics of what makes news is important for early stage companies, which typically compete for attention in a crowded marketplace,” said Still, who also writes a syndicated news column and lectures at the UW-Madison Department of Life Sciences Communication. “Avoiding some common mistakes and understanding the needs of reporters, editors and news directors is important.”
