In separate addresses this month to the Wisconsin Technology Council board of directors and a federal research convention in Madison, Gov. Scott Walker talked about how growth in the state’s tech-based economy can help drive job creation.
Speaking to the Tech Council board of directors, Walker took note of rising optimism among tech industry executives across Wisconsin, as charted in a recent survey conducted by WisBusiness.com, The Luminis Group and the Tech Council. About 60 percent of the executives surveyed said they expect the economy to improve over the next year.
Walker also addressed Wisconsin’s need for growth capital, and signaled the Legislature may be considering an initiative to help Wisconsin’s emerging businesses gain access to more capital — a necessary ingredient for job creation.
Walker also cited the need for telecommunications reform in Wisconsin, which has been recommended by the Tech Council in its policy papers. A study released by the Tech Council and Wired Wisconsin noted that regulatory changes that would speed deployment of broadband and wireless technologies in Wisconsin could create 50,000 jobs over time, given the experience of other states that have followed similar paths.
