A new report released today by the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) showed the state’s hospitals and health systems provided nearly $2 billion in community benefits and charity care in fiscal year 2021.The WHA 2022 Community Benefit Report details the many ways Wisconsin’s nonprofit hospitals and health systems care for their communities beyond patient care, often at a financial loss.

The annual report released by WHA quantifies a number of services and community contributions provided by Wisconsin hospital and health systems, spanning from charity care, subsidized health services, community health improvement services and other expenditures.

“As vital members of the communities we serve, the release of this important report underscores that the services provided by Wisconsin hospitals don’t stop at simply patient care,” said WHA President and CEO Eric Borgerding.
