With customers like Wisconsin’s We Energies, New York’s Consolidated Edison Inc. and Califonia’s Pacific Gas and Electric Co., Milwaukee-based Marquette Energy Analytics forecasts more than 20% of the country’s natural gas usage.

Energy forecasting has historically been done via spreadsheets, according to the company, but Marquette Energy Analytics modernizes that with its sophisticated data science and analytics tools. In a world where energy needs are rapidly changing, their software enables utility providers to better forecast needs and deploy resources more efficiently, Marquette Energy Analytics CEO Thomas Quinn said.

The company’s history dates back to 1993 when Wisconsin Gas Co. — which is now part of We Energies — and the industry-sponsored Gas Technology Institute, partnered with Marquette University on a research project aimed at developing a model to forecast day-ahead demand for natural gas.
