MILWAUKEE – Tim Kane, a senior scholar in research and policy at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, will lead off the ninth annual Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference in Milwaukee with a speech that will stress the job-creating role of start-up companies.
Kane’s recent work includes a 2010 study that concluded virtually all new jobs in the United States are created by start-up companies. Based in Overland Park, Kan., Kauffman is the world’s largest foundation devoted to entrepreneurship. It has an endowment of nearly $2.1 billion.

Kane will speak at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 7 at The Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave., in downtown Milwaukee.
Kane is co-author of the Kauffman Foundation’s http://www.growthology.org/ blog, which covers growth research and policy. Prior to joining the Kauffman Foundation, Kane was a director and research fellow for The Heritage Foundation, Washington, D.C., where he was the lead author and editor of the Heritage/Wall Street Journal Index of Economic Freedom.
Kane was previously a visiting assistant professor at Occidental College, where he developed a course on entrepreneurial economics. He also lectured at UC-San Diego and San Diego State University. In 2002, Kane was a candidate for U.S. Congress. In addition, Kane co-founded enonymous.com, an Internet firm that was recognized as San Diego’s 1999 software startup of the year. He was also the founder and chairman of Neocor Tech LLC. Previously, Kane served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force.

The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference is produced by the Tech Council, the independent, non-profit science and technology advisers to the Governor and the Legislature. It serves as a catalyst for the growth of Wisconsin’s tech-based and entrepreneurial economy.
