Journal Sentinel: Bioenergy research hub in Madison renewed; awarded $125M

The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center in Madison has won a five-year renewal from the federal Energy Department to continue its research on sustainable next-generation biofuel technologies. The renewal awards the center, based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, $125 million over five years. The center was created with an initial award of the same amount — $25 million a year over five years — in 2007. The center’s mission is to research sustainable production of cellulosic biofuels — crops such as switchgrass and  that don’t compete with sources of food to make energy.
