Northwestern Mutual on Tuesday held a grand opening of its new innovation lab, Cream City Labs, located on the second floor of its downtown building on North Van Buren Street in downtown Milwaukee.

The 17,000-square-foot lab includes work stations, themed conference rooms, a kitchen and personal lockers for occupants.

There’s also dedicated space for students, academics and professors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University, along with employees from Northwestern Mutual, participating in the newly established Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute, a $40 million partnership between the three organizations to accelerate data science research and technology in Milwaukee.

The lab, at 733 N. Van Buren St., will be used for community events like hackathons and also houses tech startups the company invests in through Cream City Venture Capital, its $5 million venture capital fund. Read the full story here.
