A Brown County dairy farm with thousands of cows could soon be home to one of the nation’s first biogas refineries that converts manure to liquid vehicle fuel.

The $20 million project’s supporters, including University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, say it will help pave the way for Wisconsin to produce home-grown fuel and reduce pollution from livestock operations.

The technology could also be used to make liquid fuel from food waste, said Brian Langolf, the university’s director of biogas systems research.
