All but one of the 28 subcontractors selected for work at Foxconn’s Mount Pleasant site are from Wisconsin.
Foxconn and M+W/Gilbane released the list of these subcontractors yesterday, with a total value of $100 million for all contracts. The one not from Wisconsin — trucking company R A Seaton Contractor Services — is from Rockford, Ill.
Many of the subcontractors are from cities and villages near the Milwaukee area: Sturtevant, Racine, Burlington, Mount Pleasant, Sussex and Waukesha. But others come from as far away as Black River Falls, Nekoosa and Neenah.
The list includes minority-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses. Foxconn says these companies will draw workers from about 60 Wisconsin counties.
Foxconn and M+W/Gilbane have created an “economic inclusion and diversity plan” to ensure Wisconsin workers and companies get priority treatment for development and construction contracts, according to Gov. Scott Walker’s office.
Site development work includes excavation, stormwater management, erosion control and testing. According to a release, this initial phase will require 500,000 hours of work on site and create 800 direct and indirect jobs.
At the peak of the development phase, 150 heavy earth movers sourced from Wisconsin will move over 1 million cubic yards of dirt every month, Walker’s office says.
