CHICAGO – The membership subsidiary of the Wisconsin Technology Council has launched a new chapter in central Wisconsin in partnership with Centergy, the Central Wisconsin Alliance for Economic Development.
The Wisconsin Innovation Network-Centergy chapter will serve communities in Marathon, Portage and Wood counties, with a combined population of nearly 270,000 people in cities such as Marshfield, Stevens Point, Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids.
The announcement was made at BIO, the international biotechnology and life sciences convention being held in Chicago. An initial public meeting featuring Tom Still, president of the Tech Council, and Joe Kremer, director of the Wisconsin Angel Network, will be held in central Wisconsin in mid-May.
“The regional partners in Centergy will build upon our region’s assets, which include health care and bio-based industries, and become more involved in the state’s entrepreneurial culture,” said William Tehan, president of Centergy and a shareholder in the Ruder Ware law firm. “We believe our affiliation with WIN will help us accomplish our goals.”
With existing chapters in Milwaukee, Madison, Northeast Wisconsin, the Chippewa Valley and the Lake Superior region, WIN serves as a prime networking circle and provides about 35 educational and/or news forums per year. Recent speakers statewide have included researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, financial experts and more. WIN’s individual and corporate members serve as “eyes and ears” for the Tech Council, passing along ideas and suggestions that often fit into the Tech Council’s policy agenda. WIN chapters also partner with other Tech Council programs, such as the Governor’s Business Plan Contest, the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference, the Wisconsin Early Stage Symposium and the Wisconsin Angel Network.
