The UW System’s flagship campus tied with five others to rank 44th overall, down slightly from 41st last year. The annual rankings play a significant role in students’ decisions when applying for colleges, researchers have found.

UW-Madison also ranked 14th overall in undergraduate teaching and fifth among public colleges.

In other results, Marquette University was ranked 86th overall, while Edgewood College got 171st. And Appleton’s Lawrence University was 60th among national liberal arts colleges.
