Madison-based American Family Insurance rose 13 spots on the 2017 Fortune 500 list to 315, while eight other Wisconsin companies were included on the list released by the Fortune magazine Wednesday.

The placement represents the 21st year the insurance and finance company appeared on the list. American Family is just shy of its peak spot of 313 seen in 2004 and 2005. It has jumped 78 spots since being ranked at 393 in 2013.

According to Fortune, the company had a profit of $325.6 million last fiscal year from $8.8 billion in revenue.

For the Dairy State, the remaining businesses ranked at: Northwestern Mutual, Milwaukee, 97; ManpowerGroup, Milwaukee, 146; Kohl’s, Menomonee Falls, 150; WEC Energy Group, Milwaukee, 368; Oshkosh Corp., Oshkosh, 425; Harley-Davidson, Milwaukee, 435; Rockwell Automation, Milwaukee, 442; and Fiserv, Brookfield, 471.
